STOP PRESS - HOOC wins
Submitted by Bridged Hall on Mon, 07/26/2010 - 21:11
Lambeth Council have tonight. Monday 26 July 2010, ratified recommendations that a 'temporary!' Ice Rink will NOT, I repeat, NOT be built on our Streatham Common. In addition a further recommendation was accepted that no other facilities, ie Gym, Dance or Swimming would be proposed on our Common either.
Congratulations and thanks to everyone involved in this incredible campaign.
More details will follow in a final campaign update tomorrow.

Brixton Temporary Ice Rink
Well done for preventing the temporary rink from being on Streatham Common, however Skaters 4 the Hub are concerned about parking, transport and security at this proposed Temporary Ice Rink in Brixrton. One of our mums rang Brixton Police station to ask how security would be assured for the users of the temporary rink, she was told we have not been advised this is going to happen, we have not been consulted on safety or security, we currently have many problems in the Market area near Popes Road in the afternoons and evenings with gangs of youths and dealers, if they are loitering presently we can move them on but if there is a skating rink there, we will not be able to assess whether they have a right to be there or not, this will make our job much more difficult to police, this rink should not be put in this area. None of us have seen any plans of the proposed layout, the Brixton Market traders were promised 50 parking bays close by, so far only 24 have been allocated, and they feel the market cannot survive. The added problem for Lambeth is trying to find the 60+ parking bays needed by our regular skaters plus close access for coaches from away teams, who bring all their kit and need to be able to park for at least 4 hours close by for unloading and reloading there is nowhere for these coaches to park. We are going to oppose planning permission for Tesco's from the GLA which Lambeth have to apply to after granting permission in August, as the Section 106 and Land swap and development agreement will have to be changed outside of the current planning consent given by the previous Mayor Ken Livingston, are you willing to help with your impressively successful team to advise and help us to mount a new campaign, online petition and protests to make Lambeth reconsider Stockport Road Playing field in Streatham Vale and or Crystal Palace which is owned by the GLA
